Forney ISD receives 12 acres in Overland Grove for future school site

August 2, 2019

On Monday, July 29, 2019, the Forney ISD school board accepted a donation of 12 acres in the Overland Grove subdivision.

“This is a great property, and we are grateful and excited that the developers of Overland Grove are partnering with us to provide a future school site for the students of Forney ISD,”  Forney ISD Superintendent Justin Terry said. “As we prepare to add over 7,200 new students over the next 10 years, this school site has given us another option to build in a location to best meet the needs of our growth.”

Forney ISD is the 2nd fastest growing school district with over 10,000 students in the state, and is located in the 3rd fastest growing county in the nation. Demographers are projecting the student population will grow to over 18,500 students in the next 10 years.

“Wynne/Jackson is very excited to officially have a Forney school site in our newest Master planned community, Overland Grove. We had always planned a school within the community, and that plan is now a reality with our donation of this site,” Vice President and Principal Michael C. Jackson said. “Overland Grove is a highly amenitized community with fishing ponds, lengthy walking trails, a disc golf course, a resort style pool, bark park, club house and many more amenities and this school will be an integral part of the community. We are very proud to be located in Forney ISD and thrilled about the educational opportunities FISD and the school in Overland Grove will provide to our residents!”

The Forney ISD 61 member facilities advisory committee unanimously recommended, and the school board approved, an upcoming bond election for this November. The package is inclusive of new elementary schools, so securing a future elementary school site in Overland Grove will provide another great option for future facilities.
